Tonight after dinner my parents and I indulged in a classic summer treat, the ice ball. Yum!
We got our ice balls at the family-run Schneider's Sweet Shop, the same place we've been going for years. My dad got lime and my mom and I had cherry. And it wouldn't be a true ice ball experience if none of the towering crushed ice (mine) didn't tumble to the ground to create a cherry puddle.

Later this summer when I'm settled in at the house in Washington, I'm looking forward to creating my own icy masterpieces. My friend Elyssa gave me the book Ices and a Crate and Barrel popsicle mold that hold promises of "icy delicacies"! There are some things I'm afraid to tackle in the kitchen, but "icy delicacies" isn't one of them.
Granitas, frappes, and fruit pops... oh my!
